~君 is an informal honorific suffix used primarily for males who are younger or of equal/lower social status.
USAGE:
- Attached to family names or given names
- Used by superiors addressing juniors: teachers to male students, bosses to younger male employees
- Between male peers, especially classmates or colleagues of similar rank
- Some workplaces use 君 for female employees as well, though this is becoming less common
HONORIFIC HIERARCHY:
- ~様 (sama): very formal/respectful
- ~さん (san): neutral/polite (default)
- ~君 (kun): informal (males/juniors)
- ~ちゃん (chan): affectionate/cute
NOTE:
In the Japanese parliament (国会), all members are addressed with 君 regardless of gender. This is a formal, traditional usage distinct from everyday speech.
