TWO MAIN USES:

1) INFERENCE: Apparently/It seems

  • Based on observation, the speaker infers something

2) BARELY: Just managed

  • どうやら〜た (somehow managed to ~)
  • Implies difficulty but ultimate success

COMMON PATTERNS:

  • どうやら〜らしい (apparently ~ / it seems ~)
  • どうやら〜ようだ (it appears that ~)

NUANCE:
どうやら suggests the speaker has some evidence but isn't completely certain. It's softer than はっきり (clearly) but more confident than もしかしたら (perhaps).
