To praise someone excessively, often insincerely, to put them in a good mood or get them to do something.
部下(ぶか)をおだてて仕事(しごと)をさせる。
To flatter subordinates into doing work.
おだてられると調子(ちょうし)()ってしまう。

子供(こども)をおだてて勉強(べんきょう)させようとしたが、見抜(みぬ)かれた。

TRANSITIVITY:

PROVERB:
