VARIANT:

Often abbreviated to ホーム in everyday speech. Both forms are common.

  • プラットホーム - full form (more formal)

NUMBERING:

Platforms are numbered in Japanese stations:

  • 1番(ばん)ホーム / 1番線(ばんせん) - Platform 1 / Track 1

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • 「3番線(ばんせん)に電車(でんしゃ)が参(まい)ります」- A train is arriving on track 3

NOTE:
The loanword comes from English "platform." In computing and business, プラットフォーム (with different vowel length) refers to software/business platforms.
