でもさ

でもさ
expression
but you know, but like
1. but you know, but like, however (casual)
A casual conversation opener used to introduce a contrasting point or objection. The particle さ adds a soft, conversational tone.
でもさ、それはおかしくない?
But like, isn't that weird?
でもさ、本当(ほんとう)にそれでいいの?
But you know, is that really okay?
(やす)いのはわかるけど、でもさ、品質(ひんしつ)大事(だいじ)だよ。
I get that it's cheap, but you know, quality matters too.

USAGE:
でもさ is used at the beginning of a sentence or clause to softly push back or introduce a different perspective. The さ particle makes it feel less confrontational than でも alone.

Very common among younger speakers and in casual conversation among friends. Not appropriate for formal settings.

The さ in でもさ serves the same softening function as in other casual expressions like ねえさ, あのさ, etc.
