An ultra-casual abbreviation of 了解 (understood/roger). Used primarily in texting and messaging to quickly acknowledge a message.

りょ is the ultimate abbreviation of 了解 (understood/roger). It represents the trend in Japanese texting culture to shorten acknowledgment words as much as possible.
ABBREVIATION CHAIN:
了解 → りょうかい → 了解 → りょーかい → りょ
Some speakers even abbreviate further to り, though this is less common.
REGISTER:
Extremely casual. Used exclusively in texting, messaging apps (LINE, etc.), and very casual spoken interactions among close friends. Using りょ with superiors, in business, or with people you don't know well would be inappropriate.
