char siu, roast pork
1.

この店のチャーシューは低温で時間をかけて調理しているのでとても柔らかい。
This restaurant's char siu is very tender because it's slow-cooked at a low temperature.
ORIGIN:
From Chinese 叉焼 (chāshāo). The Japanese version is typically braised in soy sauce and mirin rather than roasted with a sweet glaze as in Chinese cooking.
USAGE:
In Japan, チャーシュー most commonly refers to pork slices served on ramen. Many ramen shops offer extra チャーシュー as a topping. It is also served over rice as チャーシュー丼.
COMMON COLLOCATIONS:
- チャーシュー麺: char siu ramen (with extra pork)
- チャーシュー丼: char siu rice bowl
- 自家製チャーシュー: house-made char siu
- 炙りチャーシュー: seared/torched char siu
