USAGE:
In sense 1, 云々(うんぬん) replaces omitted content, like ellipsis in speech. It is often paired with かんぬん in the expression 云々(うんぬん)かんぬん for emphasis ("this and that and whatnot").

In sense 2, 云々(うんぬん)する means to discuss, comment on, or criticize, often implying the speaker thinks such commentary is unwelcome.

COMMON PATTERNS:

  • ~と云々(うんぬん): ...and so on
  • 云々(うんぬん)かんぬん: this and that, blah blah
  • ~を云々(うんぬん)する: to comment on / criticize
