A ship, aircraft, or other transport beginning regular service on a route. Also used for the launch of a new route or service.

WORD FORMATION:
就 (take up, enter) + 航 (navigation, voyage). Literally "entering navigation."
USAGE:
Used almost exclusively for ships and aircraft. For trains and buses, 開通 (opening of a route) or 運行開始 (start of operation) is more common.
COMMON COLLOCATIONS:
- 新たに就航する: to newly enter service
- 直行便が就航する: a direct flight enters service
- 就航路線: service route
- 就航を開始する: to begin service
