CULTURAL NOTE:
The phrase 倍返しだ！ became a popular catchphrase from the 2013 TV drama 半沢直樹, where the protagonist vowed to pay back wrongdoers doubly. The expression existed before the drama but gained widespread popularity through it.
USAGE:
Can be used for both positive (gifts, gratitude) and negative (revenge, retaliation) contexts. In gift-giving etiquette (お返し), returning a gift worth double is considered generous.
