Composed of 先 (ahead; later in time) and 日付 (date; dating), with rendaku changing ひづけ to づけ. Literally "an ahead-in-time date." The antonym is 後日付 or 遡及日付 (back-dating).
USAGE:
A specialized business and banking term. It appears most often in 先日付小切手 (post-dated check), a common practice in Japan where a supplier accepts a check dated for a future settlement day. Also used for contracts, invoices, and receipts when the effective date is intentionally set later than the signing date. Rare in everyday conversation — outside of business contexts, people simply say 日付を先にする.
