Describes a situation or outcome that matches what someone wanted, planned, or envisioned. Can be used both when things go well and when lamenting that things did not go as hoped.
Composed of 思い (thought, wish) + 通り (in accordance with). Almost always used with the particle に to form the adverbial phrase 思い通りに. Very common in everyday Japanese. The negative pattern 思い通りにいかない (things don't go as planned) is especially frequent.
