Returning to a previous position, state, or activity after an absence, injury, leave, or suspension. Used for people returning to work, athletes coming back from injury, and territories reverting to a country.

USAGE:
Common in workplace, sports, and political contexts. The pattern Xに復帰(ふっき)する (to return to X) or Xから復帰(ふっき)する (to return from X) are both frequently used. Historically significant in 沖縄(おきなわ)返還(へんかん)・復帰(ふっき) (the reversion of Okinawa to Japan in 1972).
