For an image to appear on a reflective surface such as a mirror, water, or glass.

For an image to appear on a screen, in a photograph, or through a camera. Also used to describe how something looks or comes across visually.

It came out nicely in the photo.

Who is the person appearing on TV?
(かれ)行動(こうどう)(まわ)りの(ひと)にはわがままに(うつ)ったようだ。
His behavior apparently came across as selfish to those around him.

TRANSITIVITY: 自動詞(じどうし) (intransitive). Transitive pair: (うつ)す.

ASPECT: ている indicates a state — the image is currently visible/reflected. (うつ)っている = 'is reflected / is showing.'
