丁目(ちょうめ) is a counter suffix used in Japanese addresses to indicate numbered subdivisions within a neighborhood ((まち)). Each 丁目(ちょうめ) contains multiple 番地(ばんち) (lot numbers).

ADDRESS ORDER (large to small):
都道府県(とどうふけん)市区町村(しくちょうそん)町名(ちょうめい)丁目(ちょうめ)番地(ばんち)(ごう)

COUNTING:

USAGE:
When giving addresses verbally, the number comes before 丁目(ちょうめ) with no particle between them. In written addresses, Arabic numerals are standard (3丁目(ちょうめ)). Japanese addresses go from largest to smallest unit, the reverse of Western address order.
