Used to express where someone lives or resides. Takes the particle に to mark the location of residence.

東京(とうきょう)に住(す)んでいます。

I live in Tokyo.

日本(にほん)に住(す)みたいです。

I want to live in Japan.

子(こ)どもの時(とき)、大阪(おおさか)に住(す)んでいました。

When I was a child, I lived in Osaka.

駅(えき)の近(ちか)くに住(す)んでいるので便利(べんり)です。

It's convenient because I live near the station.

一人(ひとり)で住(す)むのは初(はじ)めてで、少(すこ)し心配(しんぱい)です。

It's my first time living alone, so I'm a little worried.

TRANSITIVITY: 自動詞(じどうし) (intransitive). No pair verb. Pattern: Xに住(す)む (live in X).

ASPECT: ている indicates resulting state. 住(す)んでいる = 'is living/resides' (current residence state). This form is standard for expressing where one lives.

COMMON PATTERNS:
