ので

ので
conjunction
because, since, so
1. because, since, so
A conjunction indicating reason or cause. More objective and polite than から. Connects a reason clause to a result clause.
(あめ)()っているので、()かけない
Since it's raining, I won't go out.
(いそが)しいので、()けない。
I can't go because I'm busy.
電車(でんしゃ)(おく)れたので、会社(かいしゃ)遅刻(ちこく)した
I was late to work because the train was delayed.

ので expresses reason or cause, connecting a reason clause to a result. It presents the reason as an objective fact, making it softer and more polite than から.

GRAMMAR:

  • Verb/i-adj (plain form) + ので: (いそが)しいので
  • な-adj + なので: (しず)かなので
  • Noun + なので: 学生(がくせい)なので

CONTRAST WITH から:

  • ので: more objective, polite, softer — preferred in formal speech and writing
  • から: more subjective, casual, direct — common in everyday conversation
  • In polite speech, ので is strongly preferred over から

COMMON MISTAKE:
Using だので instead of なので after nouns and な-adjectives. The correct form is なので, not だので.

USAGE NOTE:
In spoken Japanese, なので at the start of a sentence (without a preceding clause) is increasingly common but considered informal.
