A place where trains or buses stop for passengers.
In the morning there are a lot of people at the station, so it's hard to get on the train.
駅 primarily refers to a train station. While it can technically include bus stations, in everyday usage it almost always means a railway station.
COMMON COMPOUNDS:
- 駅前: area in front of the station (a common meeting spot)
- 駅員: station staff
- 駅弁: boxed lunch sold at stations
- 終着駅: terminal station
- 乗り換え駅: transfer station
USAGE:
Counting stations uses the counter つ目: 三つ目の駅 (the third station). When giving directions, Japanese speakers often measure distance in terms of how many stations away a place is.
