Usage

時間(じかん) is both a noun meaning "time" and the word for a period of hours.

時間(じかん)がある/ない: to have/not have time
時間(じかん)がかかる: to take time
時間(じかん)を無駄(むだ)にする: to waste time
一時間(いちじかん), 二時間(にじかん), 何時間(なんじかん): one hour, two hours, how many hours?
In school, 時間(じかん) also means a class period: 一時間目(いちじかんめ) (first period).
