学校(がっこう) is the general term for school. For specific school levels, Japanese uses: 小学校(しょうがっこう) (elementary), 中学校(ちゅうがっこう) (middle school), 高校(こうこう) or 高等学校(こうとうがっこう) (high school), 大学(だいがく) (university). The particle に is used for the destination: 学校(がっこう)に行(い)く (go to school).
