1. number, issue (of a magazine or publication)
A sequential number assigned to a publication, edition, or installment. Commonly used for magazines, journals, and periodical issues.
To read the latest issue.
The March issue of that magazine was sold out.
The inaugural issue now commands a premium and is traded at high prices.
2. designation number, name (of a ship, train, typhoon, etc.)
A number or name used to identify a specific ship, train service, typhoon, space mission, or other named entity.

Usage

(ごう) is typically used as a suffix attached to numbers or names. It functions similarly to English "No." or "issue" but is used much more broadly in Japanese.
Not to be confused with the suffix 〜号(ごう) used for room numbers (三〇五(さんまるご)号室(ごうしつ) "room 305") or dress sizes.
