This term is considered somewhat dated and clinical. In modern Japanese, ハーフ is widely used for people with one Japanese and one non-Japanese parent, though some consider that term reductive as well. 混血児 (child of mixed race) appeared frequently in post-war writing. In biology, 混血 can also refer to crossbreeding of animals.
