A water outlet installed on a street or inside a building that firefighters connect hoses to in order to fight fires. Formed from 消火(しょうか) (extinguishing fire) and 栓(せん) (plug, valve).
道(みち)のそばに消火栓(しょうかせん)がある。
There is a fire hydrant by the road.
消火栓(しょうかせん)の前(まえ)に車(くるま)を止(と)めてはいけない。
You must not park your car in front of a fire hydrant.
消防隊員(しょうぼうたいいん)はホースを消火栓(しょうかせん)につないで放水(ほうすい)を始(はじ)めた。
