The edge or side portion of a road. A somewhat technical, traffic-related term, most familiar in 路側帯(ろそくたい) (the marked strip along the road edge for pedestrians).
路側(ろそく)に車(くるま)を止(と)める。
To stop the car at the roadside.
歩行者(ほこうしゃ)は路側帯(ろそくたい)を歩(ある)く。
Pedestrians walk in the roadside strip.

A traffic and road-engineering term for the side edge of a road. In ordinary conversation 道端(みちばた) is used instead; 路側(ろそく) appears mainly in fixed compounds and official contexts.
