後(うし)ろ跳(と)び

うしろとび
noun
backward jump (jump rope)
sports
1. backward jump (jump rope)
The jump-rope technique in which the rope is swung backward, from front to back, as the jumper hops over it — the reverse of the standard 前(まえ)跳(と)び. Considered slightly harder because the rope cannot be seen as it approaches the feet.
後(うし)ろ跳(と)びをやってみる。
I'll try doing a backward jump.
The backward jump is harder than the forward jump.
Since you can't see the rope, at first it kept catching on my feet when I did the backward jump.

後(うし)ろ跳(と)び reverses the direction of the rope: it is swung from front to back instead of back to front. Because the jumper cannot see the rope coming, it usually takes more practice than 前(まえ)跳(と)び to time the jump correctly.
