～ちゃん is an affectionate name suffix derived from ～さん. It expresses closeness, cuteness, or endearment.

WHO IT'S USED FOR:

• Children and babies (赤(あか)ちゃん = baby)
• Girls and young women
• Close friends (regardless of gender, in casual settings)
• Pets and cute things
• Family in baby talk: おかあちゃん (mommy), おとうちゃん (daddy), おばあちゃん (grandma)

NAME SHORTENING:
Names are often shortened before adding ちゃん: 花子(はなこ) → はなちゃん, ゆうこ → ゆうちゃん.

HONORIFIC HIERARCHY:

• ～様(さま): very formal/respectful
• ～さん: polite, general use
• ～君(くん): informal, mainly for males
• ～ちゃん: affectionate, mainly for females/children

CAUTION:
