A tall perennial grass native to Japan with silvery plumes. It is a symbol of autumn and is traditionally displayed during the moon-viewing festival (tsukimi).
すすきが(かぜ)()れている。
The pampas grass is swaying in the wind.
月見(つきみ)にはすすきを(かざ)る。
We decorate with pampas grass for moon viewing.
(あき)高原(こうげん)には一面(いちめん)のすすきが(ひろ)がり、銀色(ぎんいろ)(かがや)いていた。

The kanji form is (すすき) or (すすき), but hiragana or katakana (ススキ) is more common.

CULTURAL NOTE:
すすき is one of the (あき)七草(ななくさ) (seven grasses of autumn) and is closely associated with 月見(つきみ) (moon viewing). It is traditionally displayed alongside 月見団子(つきみだんご) during the mid-autumn festival.
