USAGE:
プレミアム is one of the most common marketing buzzwords in Japan. It is used as both a noun (プレミアムがつく = a premium is added) and a na-adjective modifier (プレミアムな = premium/luxurious). プレミアムフライデー was a government initiative (since 2017) encouraging early departure from work on the last Friday of each month.

COMMON COLLOCATIONS:

  • プレミアム会員(かいいん): premium member
  • プレミアムモデル: premium model
  • プレミアム商品(しょうひん): premium product
  • プレミアムがつく: a premium is attached (price goes above face value)
  • プレミアムフライデー: Premium Friday (government campaign)

SIMILAR WORDS:
高級(こうきゅう) (high-class/luxury) is the native equivalent. プレミアム sounds more modern and marketing-oriented.
