何(なん)としても

Usage

Expresses strong resolve or urgency. Often followed by verbs expressing desire (～たい) or obligation (～なければならない). Similar in meaning to 是(ぜ)が非(ひ)でも but more colloquial.

Common collocations

• 何(なん)としても成功(せいこう)させる (to make it succeed no matter what)
• 何(なん)としても守(まも)る (to protect at all costs)
• 何(なん)としてでも (even stronger variant with でも)
