The area outside the designated playing field, arena, or venue. Used in sports (especially sumo and martial arts), events, and figuratively for actions that go beyond the expected scope.
The opposite of 場内 (inside the venue). Frequently used in sumo, wrestling, and martial arts where going outside the ring results in a loss. Also used figuratively for things that happen "off-stage" or outside the expected arena.
