In baseball, the number of bases a batter gains on his own hit: one for a single, two for a double, three for a triple, and four for a home run. The total, 塁打数(るいだすう), is used to compute slugging percentage. Also the base of compounds such as 二塁打(にるいだ) (double) and 本塁打(ほんるいだ) (home run).
