building coverage ratio; building-to-land ratio
The ratio of a building's footprint (the area it covers on the ground) to the total area of the plot, expressed as a percentage. A legal limit set by zoning that determines how much of a lot may be built on.
A term from real estate and building regulation. It caps the ground area a building may occupy on its lot; the companion figure 容積率 caps total floor area. Sometimes written 建蔽率 with the full kanji.
