Usage

Used as a noun with だ or なる, and before a noun with (品薄(しなうす)商品(しょうひん)). It describes shelves that are thinning, not shelves that are bare — for a complete absence of goods, 品切(しなぎ) (sold out) or 品不足(しなぶそく) (shortage) is used instead.
