中世(ちゅうせい)

中世(ちゅうせい) refers to the medieval period, the era between ancient and modern times.

Etymology

中(ちゅう) (middle) + 世(せい) (era/age) = Middle Ages

• In Japan: 鎌倉(かまくら)時代(じだい) through 室町(むろまち)時代(じだい) (roughly 1185-1573)
• In Europe: approximately 5th-15th century
