I go around the park once.

I run one lap around the field.
世界(せかい)一周(いっしゅう)旅行(りょこう)に出(で)かける。
I set off on a trip around the world.
2. one year anniversary
The completion of one year since an event.
開店(かいてん)一周年(いっしゅうねん)を祝(いわ)う。
We celebrate the first anniversary of opening.
結婚(けっこん)一周年(いっしゅうねん)おめでとう。
Congratulations on your first wedding anniversary.
祖父(そふ)の一周忌(いっしゅうき)を迎(むか)える。
We observe the first anniversary of grandfather's death.

一周(いっしゅう) has two main uses.

SENSE 1 - ONE LAP/CIRCUIT:

  • 一周(いっしゅう)する: to go around once
  • 世界(せかい)一周(いっしゅう): around the world
  • 日本(にほん)一周(いっしゅう): around Japan

SENSE 2 - FIRST ANNIVERSARY:

  • 一周年(いっしゅうねん): first anniversary
  • 一周忌(いっしゅうき): first death anniversary (Buddhist term)
