Something being completely ruined or made worthless. Used when effort, plans, or something of value is destroyed or wasted.
せっかくの計画が台無しになった。
The carefully made plan was ruined.
雨で旅行が台無しだ。
The rain ruined the trip.
あの一言で楽しかった雰囲気が全部台無しになってしまった。
That one remark completely ruined the fun atmosphere.
Very often used with せっかく (with effort, specially) to express frustration that something done with care or effort has been wasted. Common patterns: 〜が台無しになる (something gets ruined) and 〜を台無しにする (to ruin something).
