A subjective sensation or feeling, especially a physical or emotional state of comfort or discomfort. Most commonly used as a suffix in compound words describing how something feels.
住み心地のいい部屋だ。
It's a comfortable room to live in.
When used as a suffix, the reading changes to ごこち.
このソファは座り心地がいい。
This sofa is comfortable to sit on.
春風が心地よく頬を撫でた。
A spring breeze pleasantly caressed my cheeks.
USAGE:
Rarely used as a standalone noun in modern Japanese. Most commonly appears as a suffix (〜心地) attached to verb stems to express how something feels to do: 乗り心地 (ride comfort), 着心地ごこち} (wearing comfort), {寝心地 (sleeping comfort). When used as a suffix, the reading changes to ごこち through rendaku.
The adjective 心地よい (pleasant, comfortable) is also common.
