USAGE:
没後(ぼつご) is the formal/written counterpart of 死後(しご) (after death). While 死後(しご) is more general and direct, 没後(ぼつご) is more respectful and commonly used in biographical and artistic contexts. The opposite is 生前(せいぜん) (during one's lifetime). 没後(ぼつご) + a number of years is a standard way to express how long ago someone died (e.g., 没後(ぼつご)(ひゃく)(ねん), one hundred years after death).

COMMON COLLOCATIONS:

  • 没後(ぼつご)(ねん): ~ years after death
  • 没後(ぼつご)評価(ひょうか)される: to be recognized posthumously
  • 没後(ぼつご)作品(さくひん): posthumous works
  • 没後(ぼつご)出版(しゅっぱん): posthumous publication
