A literary word meaning a large number or great quantity. More formal and poetic than たくさん.
数多の困難を乗り越えた。
I overcame numerous difficulties.
数多の作品を残した画家だ。
He is a painter who left behind a great many works.
彼女は数多の賞を受賞し、国際的に認められる存在となった。
Having received numerous awards, she became internationally recognized.
USAGE:
A literary, elevated word. In everyday speech, たくさん or 多くの is used instead. 数多 appears in formal writing, literature, speeches, and news. Almost always modifies a noun with の: 数多の作品.
