USAGE:
Short for 健康診断. In Japan, annual health checkups are mandated by law for employees. Community-based screenings are also widely offered for residents.
NOTE: Not to be confused with the homophone 検診, which refers to screening for a specific disease (e.g., 癌検診, cancer screening). 健診 is a general checkup; 検診 targets a specific condition.
