A general health examination to check one's overall physical condition. Short for 健康診断(けんこうしんだん). Includes routine checkups at workplaces and community health screenings.

USAGE:
Short for 健康診断(けんこうしんだん). In Japan, annual health checkups are mandated by law for employees. Community-based screenings are also widely offered for residents.

NOTE: Not to be confused with the homophone 検診(けんしん), which refers to screening for a specific disease (e.g., 癌(がん)検診(けんしん), cancer screening). 健診(けんしん) is a general checkup; 検診(けんしん) targets a specific condition.
