1.
evening calm; evening lull
A period of calm that occurs near the coast in the evening when the sea breeze dies down. By extension, a peaceful, still evening atmosphere.
A meteorological and literary term. 凪 means a calm or lull in the wind, especially at sea. In coastal areas, the land-sea breeze cycle causes a brief period of stillness around sunset — this is 夕凪. The counterpart is 朝凪 (morning calm). In the 瀬戸内海 (Seto Inland Sea) region, 夕凪 is especially associated with oppressive summer heat because the wind stops completely.
