Medicine that induces bowel movements, taken for constipation or to clear the bowels before a medical procedure such as a colonoscopy. The medical-register term, used by doctors and on prescriptions.
下 (descending) + 剤 (preparation, drug). The medical-register term. In a doctor's office or on a prescription you will see 下剤, but on consumer products and TV ads the everyday 便秘薬 is used instead.
