An arena built for sumo wrestling. By default refers to the 両国(りょうごく)国技館(こくぎかん) in Tokyo, the main venue for grand sumo tournaments in eastern Japan.

Literally "national-sport hall," from 国技(こくぎ) (national sport) + (かん) (hall). The current arena in Ryōgoku opened in 1985 and hosts three of the six annual sumo tournaments.
