The general verb for visual perception. Can mean passive seeing (something enters your field of vision) or active looking (directing your attention to something).

to watch
Used for watching TV, movies, sports, or any extended visual activity. テレビを見る (to watch TV), 映画を見る (to watch a movie).

to try (doing something)
When attached to the te-form of another verb (〜てみる), expresses trying or attempting an action to see what happens.
TRANSITIVITY: 他動詞 (transitive). No pair verb. Pattern: Xを見る (see/watch X).
ASPECT: ている indicates ongoing action. 見ている = 'is watching/looking at.'
COMMON PATTERNS:
- テレビを見る (watch TV)
- 映画を見る (watch a movie)
- 〜て見る (try doing〜)
- 見てください (please look)
Auxiliary usage: 〜て見る means 'try doing.' Ichidan verb: 見ない, 見ます, 見て, 見た.
