median strip; central reservation (of a road)
The strip in the middle of a road that separates traffic moving in opposite directions. May be a raised curb, a planted area, or a barrier.
中央分離帯に木が植えてある。
Trees are planted in the median strip.
車が中央分離帯に乗り上げた。
The car rode up onto the median strip.
この道路は中央分離帯があるので、反対車線に出る心配がない。
This road has a median strip, so there is no worry of crossing into the oncoming lane.
A road-engineering term. Separates opposing traffic to prevent head-on collisions. Often shortened to 分離帯 in casual speech.
