pre-noun adjectival; prenominal word
A class of words in Japanese grammar that can only modify a following noun. They never conjugate and cannot end a sentence: この, その, あの, 大きな, 小さな, ある, いわゆる.
A term from Japanese school grammar, used in this dictionary for words such as この and 大きな. A 連体詞 comes only directly before a noun: 大きな家 is correct, but a sentence cannot end in 大きな; the predicate form is the i-adjective 大きい.

- 大きな / 小さな: big / small (before a noun only)
- ある: a certain (ある日, one day)
