An IT professional who designs computer systems for clients: working out requirements, planning the system, and managing its development. In Japan it is a common job title in software companies, often shortened to SE.
兄(あに)はシステムエンジニアだ。

Often abbreviated SE (エスイー). In Japanese companies the title usually means the person who designs the system and talks to the client, while プログラマー write the code.
