CULTURAL NOTE:
In Japanese Buddhist cremation, the 喉仏(のどぼとけ) bone (the second cervical vertebra) is considered special because its shape resembles a Buddha in meditation. It is often the last bone picked up with chopsticks during bone-picking ceremonies.
