1. to come to (do); to start (doing) — change in behavior or state
Marks a change to a new habitual action or state. With a plain present verb, it expresses that a person has come to do something they did not used to do.
毎日(まいにち)運動(うんどう)するようになった。
I've come to exercise every day.
(かれ)最近(さいきん)早起(はやお)きするようになった。
He has recently started getting up early.
結婚(けっこん)してから、料理(りょうり)をよく(つく)るようになった。
Since getting married, I've come to cook often.
2. to become able to (do)
With the potential form of a verb, it expresses newly gained ability.
漢字(かんじ)()めるようになった。
I've become able to read kanji.
自転車(じてんしゃ)()れるようになった。
I've become able to ride a bicycle.
毎日(まいにち)練習(れんしゅう)したおかげで、ピアノが()けるようになった。
