ETYMOLOGY:
From 軟派, originally meaning a "soft faction" in politics, later applied to frivolous or romantic pursuits.
REGISTER:
Casual/colloquial. Often carries negative connotations — being called ナンパ師 is not a compliment. The passive form ナンパされる is very common in conversation.
